in the interim

i've just had most of my new york films developed, and they're coming, don't you worry about that (i have a feeling this jet-lag is going to linger). also, the chronology is going to be weird because a) i like to do the film first and b) i didn't actually take that many digitals. but in the end that doesn't really matter does it? anyway, on with the show.
one day, i met ellie down in borough and it was only much later that i realised i'd become so accustomed to shooting cheap film that my camera was still set for ISO400. i quite like it though.

ellie and lexi lexington (lex luther).

another day i went to the southbank again, heading towards tatemod.

actually i think these are two separate occasions, because this is a derelict building near st paul's that i had been meaning to get off the bus and photograph for ages and i finally did on my way to tatemod (i remember, i walked) so it must have been a different day.

i just worked out what this reminds me of - an image from that old history of architecture textbook by nikolas pevsner. dad, you know the one. the colour and the quality are very fitting.

i should really stop taking my camera to the tatemod. i just keep taking the same photos over and over again.

that same building on the way home (see previous comment).

a week of art

ellie and i went to tate mod this afternoon to check out baldessari, pop life and this...

how it is by miroslaw balka.

it's an empty oversized shipping container and it's pitch black inside. call me crazy but it would have been infinitely more effective if people weren't attempting to take photos in there. idiots.

that said, it gave me goosebumps.

onto to tate brit tomorrow and hopefully anish kapoor on the weekend (probably very busy though). if not, my week of coffee (after two weeks without) can be interrupted.

covering some ground

the sir john soane museum. i've been meaning to come here for months and finally got around to it because of mum and dad. it's one of those ones that's in all the history books, mainly because sir john was a complete nut-bag and had filled his house with architectural relics. he also had a somewhat tumultuous private life and has referred to his own sons, in print, as "flinty-hearted". nice one.

mama.

ellie. (at the marylebone pad - pretty nice).

dad at his home office away from home.

me and rothko : friends forever

apparently there's something wrong with the chimney, they're not very descriptive about it.

last time i saw this beast was in bilbao 2004.

didn't take any photos of the rothko retrospective (why would you even waste your time). the murals from the chapel are simply exquisite though i would like to see them in their original context without all the idiots - "no i don't think much of these, he's become a bit sloppy" - i kid you not. the seagram murals are breathtaking too but i'm looking forward to them being back in the main collection. if you come looking for me in london, that's where i'll be.

i love that no matter how much it pretends not to be, london will always be completely dickensian. god only knows what he was looking for down there.
