wonderful day for windows

i spent today (well, most of it) hanging out with my darling stranger of a sister doing the rounds of the shops we like in town.

we experienced a few pretty exciting window displays too. this is the first - a ww1 miltary jacket worn by john lennon. the photo does not do it justice.
the second was at dover street market and i was too excited to even think to document it - a checkerboard of the shigeru ban/artek collaboration. now would be a nice time to have money and a house to furnish.

and these were in the window of the gap on regents street. pretty damn excited for this film to come out, i must say...

... pretty damn cool to see some of the puppets too.

ye olde

my goodness it was bloody windy today! had a rambling kind of day, with vague destinations in mind :

started out in covent garden at monmouth coffee and wandered about a bit through familiar streets (neal st in particular).
on to the national gallery - note to ellie : i saw lady grey, surrounded by school children. she's very luminous - note to josh : also saw the tiger by rousseau that caused much consternation, don't know if you remember but it has stuck firmly in my mind.
then on up to soho to have another coffee (i know. i needed to sit though.). i went to milkbar (i found it! i always get tangled in soho but it's right near the fancy nando's!) and ran into a regular from work. his name is matt and he's from sydney and he and his girlfriend are going to take me under their wing a bit (they're a bit older but with similar design-y, music-y, coffee-y sentiments). he's given me the beginnings of a list for london and has promised one for paris (to add to my own of course).
then over to mayfair to check out new stuff at dover street (speedos are coming in next week!) and down savile row to stalk a bit... not really. i do like walking down there though.
but, alas, the weather got the better of me and i wasn't prepared so i came home again to a broken lock (thanks to my brilliant flatmate... long story, he's such a knob) and some internet!
big day.

flash flash

ellie, kat, olivia and i went to flash for a most scrumptious lunch today. it's a temporary restaurant in the royal academy set up by the bistroteque people and it was most delicious. the plates are commemorative wedgewood (it's their 250th anniversary) and they have various collaborations (a chandelier by giles deacon, thonet chairs etc) within. the place closes at the end of next week therefore everything is for sale... my reasoning is as such : seeing as though wedgewood is going under (horrible, shocking, awful i know. stupid recession.) and i like pandas (and i had to leave rosie at home) i shall go and purchase some lovely crockery and not feel guilty about it. they're collectors items. come on.

they also had a lovely man playing pop tunes on the baby grand. lunch became a mini game of spicks and specks. kat lost.
