i went to see tim burton's alice last night. it was magnificado (which is something like an avocado, but always in season). i think that says a lot, coming from a purist such as me.

taking photos whilst upside down on my bed, listening to joanna newsom. a sunny afternoon well spent.

rebuilding

i spent a rather uneventful, little bit rainy day wandering about in soho. foyles is an amazing and independent bookstore across the road from a borders on charing cross...

it's where i picked these up. two pounds each. yep, two pounds. and i thought $10 penguin classics was a good deal. this photo doesn't do the colour justice either.

park life
the house hunt begins. i walked down to see an 'arty house' near victoria park. lovely location but the house was not quite right (smallest room ever.)
this is not house i looked at, though i wish it was.

met up with soph and we made our way to lamb's conduit street. there is the most beautiful bookshop called 'persephone books' that resurrects out-of-print books and recreates them with uniform grey covers but unique patterns inside (as you can see here). it made me very, very excited to reconstruct my library. i figure there will have to be a few books i'll have to buy again, ones i can read many times over and ones i can't live without - alice (of course), winne the pooh, a moveable feast... i'm sure i'll think of more!

oh alice!

josh bought me this funny 'alice' book on that missionary ship, doulos. it's a picture book that was originally printed in the 50s when the disney film came out. i still have my vhs copy of the movie but it's nice to have such easy access to these images.

if i were ever to get a sleeve, it would be this. best scene ever.
